In our country, the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office acts as the authority during trademark application procedures. On average, the application procedure takes 6-8 months, but there is an option for an accelerated procedure; however, the fee for these procedures is higher than that of the standard procedure. The procedure begins with the submission of the trademark application and the payment of the fee specified by law, after which the authority examines the application for any potential deficiencies. If the application has no deficiencies, or if they are rectified by the applicant and furthermore, no grounds for refusal arise in connection with the application, the authority publishes the trademark application in the Gazette of Patents and Trademarks. Within 3 months following the publication, it is possible to file an opposition against the application if it infringes upon another proprietor's trademark protection. If this does not occur and the 3 months pass successfully, the Office registers the trademark. The trademark protection is valid for 10 years from the filing date but is renewable for an unlimited time in exchange for payment of a fee.
